How to Make Gingerbread Men Insert Cards
LEARN HOW TO MAKE CUTE GINGERBREAD MAN INSERT CARDS WITH ANY CRICUT CUTTING MACHINE
Okay, I don't think it is a secret that I love sweets! I mean, I owned a cupcake shop for goodness sake. I always go right to dessert no matter at a party, a restaurant, or the grocery store! LOL!
I wanted to make a cute insert card for all those holiday sweets lovers and, naturally, I thought of gingerbread!
This design is so fun. It uses Cricut Pens to add a background fill that says “Sweet Holiday Wishes”.
As for all my insert cards, it can be made using any Cricut, or other brand, cutting machine you have! In the download, you will find two folders inside. One for Cricut Explore and Cricut Maker and one for Cricut Joy.
The Cricut Joy design is ONLY the design so it would be best to use Cricut’s Insert Card Packs available at most craft stores! The Cricut Explore and Cricut Maker design does include an envelope with a cute little gingerbread cutout on the back flap.
Note: I will be using my Cricut Joy in this tutorial and the Joy design files. For more information on how to use this design with a Cricut Maker or Cricut Explore series, please take a look at my tutorial on how to make Christmas Tree Insert Cards!
In this tutorial, I’ll give you my step by step instructions and tell you what materials I think work best when making this project.

GINGERBREAD MAN INSERT CARDS – MATERIALS LIST
Gingerbread Man Insert Cards
This tutorial will show you how to make a cute gingerbread man insert card using your Cricut Joy and the Cricut Insert Card Packs.
Materials
- My Gingerbread Man Insert Card SVG Cut File
- Cricut Insert Card Pack (for the outer card)
- Cardstock (for the insert)
- Glue or adhesive (optional)
Tools
- A way to cut out your cardstock. I am using my Cricut Joy!
- Cricut Joy CardMat (blue)
- Cricut Joy StandardGrip Cutting Mat (green)
- Cricut Joy Pen. I am using Brown.
Instructions
STEP 1 - DOWNLOAD THE SVG CUT FILE
Download the SVG Cut file for the Gingerbread Man Insert Cards (#101) from The File Vault. Get access by joining the club.
STEP 2 - UPLOAD THE SVG FILE TO CRICUT DESIGN SPACE
If you aren't familiar with uploading SVG files into Design Space, take a look at my quick and easy tutorial here. Using your smartphone? Click here for my step-by-step guide on uploading SVG files with the Cricut App.
STEP 3 - UNGROUP CARD LAYERS
The file will upload into Cricut Design Space grouped together. You will want to hit the UNGROUP button to separate the layers.
STEP 4 - CONVERT CUT LINES TO DRAW LINES
Convert the text from a cut layer to a draw layer by selecting the text in the LAYERS panel.
Change the OPERATION from BASIC CUT to PEN. Select the color pen of your choice.
Attach everything together by highlighting the GROUP and selecting the ATTACH option in lower right hand corner.
Click the GREEN Make It Button.
STEP 6 - MAKE YOUR MAT & MATERIAL SELECTIONS THEN PREPARE YOUR MATS
SInce I am using a CardMat and StandardGrip Cutting Mat for this project, I am going to select Multiple Mats. Click DONE.
Under the Material Load Type for the outer card, select ON CARD MAT.
Next, select your card size. I am using the smaller Insert Cards so I am changing it to 4.25 x 5.5.
Now, drag the design to the bottom right corner of the card. This will center the design on the card blank.
Under the Material Load Type for the insert, select ON MAT.
Click the CONTINUE button.
Insert your card layer into the card mat with the folded side on the left. Make sure to align at the top and side.
I use my Cricut Brayer at this point to give the card a good rub just to make sure it adheres well.
STEP 7 - LOADING YOUR MATS AND CUTTING YOUR MATERIALS
Open your Cricut Joy and place your pen into the clamp. Close the clamp.
Place the card mat into the machine. Your machine will feed the mat into your Cricut Joy automatically and check for proper alignment.
In Cricut Design Space, select the green GO button and your Joy will begin the cut. Once the cut is complete, select UNLOAD in Design Space.
Repeat these steps for the insert layer.
STEP 8 - ASSEMBLE YOUR CARD
Now that your card is cut, it is time to assemble the insert card.
Weed any portions of the card that may have not released when removing the card from the mat.
Slide the insert into the slits made on the outer card layer, securing it into place.
Press the card with your hand to ensure everything lays properly.
Your card is ready for a message, place into one of the included envelopes with the Cricut Insert Card Packs, and mail it to family and friends.
Like I said, this card is so cute. Who doesn't love gingerbread? Even if you don't like to eat them, they are adorable.

I am so glad you like it, Yvonne!
This is an adorable Christmas card Nick! Gingerbread are so in, so I can’t wait to make this one and sent out too. You are killing it my friend! Hugs, Brenda
Thanks, Brenda! I am glad you like it!
This is so cute!! I can’t wait for my cardstock to arrive so I can go back to the second one! I do have a question though. What weight cardstock is best to use for making cards? I don’t have any 12×12 white so need to buy some for the little church but there are so many different weights. I gave up because I didn’t know which one to choose.
I find anything that is 80 lb and heavier is best for cards.
Can I make this with an Explore Air 2?
You sure can! Download the file and follow the basic steps from the Christmas Tree Insert Card that is linked in the blog post!
