DIY Insert Cards with Cricut Joy
LEARN HOW TO MAKE CUSTOM INSERT CARDS USING THE ADORABLE YET POWERFUL CRICUT JOY!
Okay, all. First, I want to say that while this tutorial is intended to make insert cards using Cricut Joy, you can make this project with a Cricut Maker or Explore Air 2. The free file has an option specific to either the Joy or Maker/Explore Air 2 machines!
I designed this card because I haven't talked to my grandparents in some time since the pandemic hit. I wanted to send out a little something letting them know that I was thinking of them and we will see each other soon!
Now, I wasn't sure if I needed one because I am in love with my Cricut Maker but I decided I would order it and try. IT IS SO CUTE! Yes, small and portable but this little guy (or girl) can certainly perform! Also, the Card Mat is a game changer for card making!
In this tutorial, I’ll give you my step by step instructions and tell you what materials I think work best when making this project.

Instructions
SSTEP 1 - DOWNLOAD THE SVG CUT FILE
Download the SVG Cut file for the Thinking of You Insert Card (#22) from The File Vault. Get access by joining the club.
STEP 2 - UPLOAD THE SVG FILE TO CRICUT DESIGN SPACE
If you aren't familiar with uploading SVG files into Design Space, take a look at my quick and easy tutorial here. Using your smartphone? Click here for my step-by-step guide on uploading SVG files with the Cricut App.
STEP 3 - RESIZE THE IMAGE
Once you have uploaded the file, you can resize the image if making a larger card. The file will upload with the correct dimensions for the Cricut Insert Cards.
Click the GREEN Make It Button located at the top right corner.
Step 4 - PREPARE YOUR MATS AND MAKE YOUR MATERIAL SELECTIONS
When you select your Cricut Joy machine, Design Space will ask you which mat you will be using. For this tutorial, I am using the SUPER COOL Card Mat.
Make sure you select the right card size for your project.
Adjust your image on the mat. Design Space will place the artwork on your card upside down so you will need to rotate it.
Click the green CONTINUE button.
I am using the Cricut Insert Cards for this project so I will select the Insert Card for my materials.
Insert your card layer into the card mat with the folded side on the left. Make sure to align at the top and side. I use my Cricut Brayer at this point to give the card a good rub just to make sure it adheres well.
STEP 5 - LOADING YOUR MATS AND CUTTING YOUR MATERIALS
Place the card mat into the machine. Your Cricut Joy will start to feed the mat already.
Your machine will feed the mat into your Cricut Joy automatically and check for proper alignment.
In Cricut Design Space, select the green GO button and your Joy will begin the cut.
Once the cut is complete, select UNLOAD in Design Space.
Carefully remove the card from the mat.
STEP 6 - ASSEMBLE YOUR CARD
Now that your card is cut, it is time to assemble the insert card.
I always place a few drops of glue on the backside of my outer card layer. I think it helps everything stay in place better. However, this is totally optional.
Slide the insert into the slits made on the outer card layer, securing it into place.
Give it a light press with your hand.
That's it!
Add your personal message and your card is ready for the mail!
I know this will brighten anyone's day. The card is simple, sweet, and pretty. What more can you ask for?
