Thank You For Your Service Insert Cards
LEARN HOW TO MAKE THESE PATRIOTIC INSERT CARDS TO THANK OUR ARMED FORCES
Armed Forces Day is soon upon us and I wanted to make a special card to thank those service members that I know. These Thank You For Your Service Insert Cards can be given throughout the year, not just on any of the patriotic holidays.
I designed this card to use the Print then Cut function on your Cricut cutting machine. That means it can only be made using a cutting machine with this capability, like the Cricut Explore Air 2 or Cricut Maker.
In this tutorial, I’ll give you my step by step instructions and tell you what materials I think work best when making this project.
Basic and Premium TBH Crafters Club Members can download the SVG cut file for this project in the File Library.

If you aren't familiar with uploading SVG files into Design Space, take a look at my quick and easy tutorial here. Using your smartphone? Click here for my step-by-step guide on uploading SVG files with the Cricut App.
STEP 3 - UNGROUP YOUR DESIGN
Now that you have uploaded the design, click UNGROUP.
STEP 4 - FLATTEN THE PRINT THEN CUT LAYER
The insert on this card is designed to be a print then cut image.
If you prefer to create a layered insert, you can skip this step and cut all the pieces out to form a layered American Flag.
To convert this, highlight the group.
Next, select FLATTEN in the lower right corner of the LAYERS panel.
You will notice the layer has changed to "Print then Cut"
Now, click the green MAKE IT button.
STEP 5 - PRINT THE AMERICAN FLAG LAYER
You will see the layers for this card in the mat preview. Click the CONTINUE button.
Press SEND TO PRINTER.
Make sure to have the BLEED on and select PRINT.
STEP 6 - MAKE YOUR MATERIAL SELECTIONS AND PREPARE YOUR MATS
For this tutorial, I am using Medium Cardstock. Select your materials accordingly.
STEP 7 - LOADING YOUR MATS AND CUTTING YOUR MATERIALS
To load the mat into the machine, press the double arrows button. Do make sure that the mat is positioned under the mat guides.
Hit the "C" button once it begins to flash and you are on your way to creating your card! Follow the prompts in Design Space on when to change out the different tools.
STEP 8 - ASSEMBLE YOUR CARD
Now that everything has been cut out, is time to assemble this patriotic card.
Begin by folding along the score line of the outer card.
Press the fold with your scraper.
Place the American Flag insert into the slits on the outer card.
Add glue or adhesive to any parts that don't want to lay flat.
Your card is done!
STEP 9 - ASSEMBLE THE ENVELOPE
Fold along the score lines of the envelope.
Press the folds with your scraper.
Add glue or adhesive to the side flaps.
Bring the bottom flap up to form the envelope.
Your card is ready to add a sentiment and gift to any service man or woman!
I think this card is so pretty and just makes you want to stand a little taller. Maybe sing “Proud to be an American”!

Well now that I read the tutorial….I can throw away all those tiny stars. LOL
I tried making this card, BUT when I hit make it, two of the red stripes have disappeared on the print and cut portion. They show on the card, but not in the layers (after I hit make it.) Can you help?
Hi, Joyce!
I’m sorry you are having issues with this card.
I just checked into the file within Design Space and it is working as intended. Could you have possibly missed a few of the red stripes when flattening the flag image onto the white rectangle?
