DIY Spotify Keepsake
LEARN HOW TO EASILY CREATE KEEPSAKE ARTWORK USING YOUR FAVORITE OR FIRST SONG!
Have you seen the new Spotify keepsake sweeping Facebook? It is such a neat idea and I KNEW I had to make one. You can use the Spotify code maker to create the code you can scan with your phone. Scan it and the song will play in Spotify. How cool?!?!
UPDATE (October 2020) – Since creating this tutorial, Spotify has changed how users can use their song codes. In order to instantly play the song after scanning the code, you need to be a subscriber to Spotify Premium. With the free Spotify plan, the song will be added to a playlist. It will still play but not immediately.
I wanted to take it a step further so I created an SVG file that includes a background color. This can be customized to your wedding colors, as I am doing in this tutorial, or your favorite colors!
My wedding colors were navy blue and gray. I will be using gray vinyl for the glass and a navy blue background behind the glass.
In this tutorial, I’ll give you my step by step instructions and tell you what materials I think work best when making this project.
Basic and Premium TBH Crafters Club Members can download the SVG cut file for this project in the File Library.

Instructions
STEP 1 - DOWNLOAD THE SVG CUT FILE
Download the SVG Cut file for the Music Player (#16) from The File Vault. Get access by joining the club.
STEP 2 - UPLOAD THE SVG FILE TO CRICUT DESIGN SPACE
If you aren't familiar with uploading SVG files into Design Space, take a look at my quick and easy tutorial here. Using your smartphone? Click here for my step-by-step guide on uploading SVG files with the Cricut App.
STEP 3 - UNGROUP THE IMAGE
The file will upload into Cricut Design Space grouped together. You will want to hit the UNGROUP button to separate the layers.
STEP 4 - ADD YOUR TEXT
I did not add text with the SVG file to allow you to completely customize your artwork. To add text, click the TEXT button on the left side of your screen (f you are on the app it will be on the bottom of your screen).
Type the name of your song. Note: For this tutorial, I am using the Cricut Sans text but you can use whatever text you would like!
Adjust text size. I found in order for the sizing to look right, size 40 for the SONG TITLE is appropriate. Again, the best part about personalizing is you can adjust it to however you prefer it to look!
I wanted everything to match in the "player" portion of the artwork so I changed the text color to white.
Place the text above the player bar.
Duplicate the layer.
Add the ARTIST of your favorite song.
Adjust the size. For this project, I changed the artist text to size 20.
Add the artist text below the song title.
Highlight both text layers.
Align them by selecting ALIGN LEFT.
Duplicate the artist text twice. These text boxes will be for your PLAYER TICKER. One at the beginning of the player bar and the the end. I would check Spotify for the correct duration of the song.
Place them below the player bar.
Align these text boxes by highlighting both layers.
Select CENTER VERTICALLY.
STEP 5 - GRAB YOUR SONG ARTWORK AND SPOTIFY CODE
Open the Spotify App. I am using my iPhone for this but I am sure the same process applies to the Andriod and desktop versions.
Once you have your song playing, it will show up at the bottom. Tap that bar.
Tap the THREE DOTS in the upper right hand corner.
Tap the album artwork.
Select SAVE TO PHOTOS.
STEP 6 - IMPORT ALBUM ARTWORK INTO DESIGN SPACE
Following the same process as you did to import the SVG file, select the album artwork from your computer or device.
Under IMAGE TYPE, select SIMPLE.
Select CONTINUE.
Select SAVE AS A PRINT THEN CUT IMAGE. Select DONE.
Highlight the album artwork and select INSERT IMAGE.
STEP 7 - PREP YOUR ARTWORK FOR A PRINT THEN CUT IMAGE
Once imported, place the artwork over the blank rectangle included in your SVG. This box is the sized already for my piece of glass (8x10). If you wanted it to be bigger or smaller, feel free to change it how you wish.
Once placed over the rectangle shape, select both layers by highlighting them both.
Select FLATTEN. You will see the layer change to include PRINT THEN CUT
Highlight the vinyl layers.
Select ATTACH. This will ensure the pieces stay where they need to when they are cut.
Click the GREEN Make It Button located at the top right corner.
STEP 8 - PRINT OUT YOUR ALBUM ARTWORK
Follow the prompts in Design Space to print out your album artwork onto the sticker paper or printable vinyl.
STEP 9 - MAKE YOUR MATERIAL SELECTIONS AND PREPARE YOUR MATS
I am using Oracal 631 Vinyl so I am selecting VINYL. No need to mirror this project!
STEP 10 - LOADING YOUR MATS AND CUTTING YOUR MATERIALS
Attach your cardstock to the Cricut StandardGrip Mat.
To load the mat into the machine, press the double arrows button. Do make sure that the mat is positioned under the mat guides.
Hit the "C" button once it begins to flash and you are on your way to cutting out your card!
Once the cut is complete, the double arrows will flash again. Press it and the mat will unload.
When removing the vinyl, peel your mat away from the vinyl rather than peeling your vinyl away from the mat. This will help prevent curling.
Repeat Step 10 until all layers are cut.
STEP 11 - WEED YOUR VINYL
Weed your vinyl using the weeding tool. I tend to weed on the mat because it gives me a "third hand". After you have weeded, trim the excess carrier sheet and vinyl.
STEP 12 - PREP YOUR GLASS
It is always a good idea to clean your glass with rubbing alcohol.
STEP 13 - ASSEMBLE YOUR ART
Add transfer tape to your vinyl piece. Rub your brayer and/or scraper against the transfer tape to ensure good adhesion!
Trim the excess away.
Peel the carrier sheet off.
Place your vinyl onto your glass lining up the edges and ensuring it is properly centered BEFORE you press down.
Press with your brayer or scraper to ensure the vinyl sticks to your glass. Begin to peel the transfer tape away from the artwork. Do this slowly.
Apply your album artwork over the blank rectangle.
STEP 14 - PLACE INTO FRAME
Add your glass to your frame. If you are using a background color of cardstock, place that behind your glass. Secure the glass.
You're done! Beautiful!
This keepsake is sure to make anyone smile!

I signed up but couldnt find the SVG file for the DIY Spotify Keepsake
Hi, Tina!
Welcome! The Spotify Keepsake file is listed under “Spotify Keepsake Player” in the Resource Library.
Once you have the file downloaded, unzip the file and the SVG cut file will be located in the folder named SVG.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions!
This is a really great idea for a wedding gift for someone. Only problem is that you MUST have Spotify Premium in order for it to “play”.
Hi, Judy.
Yes, I just found out about this change within Spotify. It was not a requirement to have Spotify Premium when I made this tutorial. I’ve added an update to the post.
It is my understanding that with the free plan, you can still scan the code and the song will be placed in a playlist.
