How to Make Multi-Colored Birthday Cards
LEARN HOW TO MAKE FUN MULTI-COLORED BIRTHDAY CARDS USING YOUR CRICUT CUTTING MACHINE'S DRAW FUNCTION!
This month with my design hop group, the theme was birthdays. We can always use more birthday card ideas right?
So, I designed this fun card that uses your Cricut pens to draw on the sentiment for you. Isn't it fun?
What I love about this card is that you can change up the theme just by using different papers and pen colors.
For example, this card was made using birthday themed papers and all my rainbow colored pens.
In the tutorial today, I will be showing you a fun October/Halloween themed version using black and orange pens along with some fun Halloween papers.
No matter how you want to customize this card, you will follow the same process outlines in the tutorial below.
In this tutorial, I’ll give you my step by step instructions and tell you what materials I think work best when making this project.

Instructions
STEP 1 - DOWNLOAD THE SVG CUT FILE
Download the SVG Cut file for the Multi-Colored Birthday Card (#95) from The File Vault. Get access by joining the club.
STEP 2 - UPLOAD THE SVG FILE TO CRICUT DESIGN SPACE
If you aren't familiar with uploading SVG files into Design Space, take a look at my quick and easy tutorial here. Using your smartphone? Click here for my step-by-step guide on uploading SVG files with the Cricut App.
STEP 3 - UNGROUP CARD LAYERS
The file will upload into Cricut Design Space grouped together. You will want to hit the UNGROUP button to separate the layers.
STEP 4 - CONVERT FOLD LINES TO SCORE LINES
Scroll down the list in the LAYERS panel and find the envelope. Click the fold line. Then, change the fold lines to score lines by changing the OPERATION from BASIC CUT to SCORE.
Attach the score line and the envelope by highlighting the GROUP and selecting the ATTACH option in lower right hand corner.
Repeat this step for the card base.
STEP 5 - CONVERT CUT LINES TO DRAW
Find the Birthday layer in the LAYERS panel. Click one of the text layers.
Change the text by changing the OPERATION from BASIC CUT to PEN. Select the color pen of your choice.
Repeat this step until all text layers have been converted to draw.
Attach everything together by highlighting the GROUP the birthday layer is under and selecting the ATTACH option in lower right hand corner.
Repeat this step for the Happy layer.
Click the GREEN Make It Button.
STEP 6 - MAKE YOUR MATERIAL SELECTIONS AND PREPARE YOUR MATS
You will see the four layers for this card in the mat preview.
Click the CONTINUE button.
For this tutorial, I am using Medium Cardstock. Select your materials accordingly.
Attach your cardstock to the Cricut StandardGrip Mat using the Cricut Brayer.
STEP 7 - LOADING YOUR MATS AND CUTTING YOUR MATERIALS
To load the mat into the machine, press the double arrows button. Do make sure that the mat is positioned under the mat guides.
You will know the machine is ready to cut your material when you see the flashing "C" button. Press that to start the cut.
Follow Design Space prompts to change out the scoring wheel, pens, and fine point cutting blade.
Once the cut is complete, make sure to peel the mat away from the cardstock rather than the cardstock from the mat. This will prevent any curling of your design.
Repeat Step 7 for until all layers have been cut.
STEP 8 - ASSEMBLE YOUR CARD
Now that everything is cut, we can start to assemble the card.
Begin by folding the card base along the score line and burnishing the fold with your scraper.
Flip the birthday layer over and add glue or adhesive to the back.
Center onto the mat layer.
Next, flip the mat over and add glue or adhesive to the back.
Position onto the front of the card base.
Place a foam square on the back of the happy layer.
Remove the paper backing and attach to the birthday layer. I like to place mine above the "B".
STEP 9 - ASSEMBLE YOUR ENVELOPE
Fold along the score lines of the envelope and burnish with your scraper.
Add glue to the bottom edge of the side flaps.
Bring the bottom flap up to form your envelope.
Your card is ready!
This card, no matter how you choose to customize it, will put a smile on anyone's face. I can’t wait to see how you make yours!
