How to Make Money Cards for Christmas
LEARN HOW TO MAKE EASY MONEY CARDS FOR CHRISTMAS GIFT GIVING USING YOUR CRICUT CUTTING MACHINE!
Let's face it. It is always easier to gift money, gift cards, or even checks during the holidays – especially when you are in a rush!
I wanted to create a money card that not only served its purpose but also was a bit more than “the usual”.
This money card has a message layer in the back that can be concealed with the included cover panel or left so your recipient can see it right away.
Personally, I like the cover panel because it finishes off the card but, like always, the choice is yours.
I love the belly band, too! It really adds a little pop of contrast!
In this tutorial, I’ll give you my step by step instructions and tell you what materials I think work best when making this project.

Instructions
STEP 1 - DOWNLOAD THE SVG CUT FILE
Download the SVG Cut file for the Christmas Money Card (#103) from The File Vault. Get access by joining the club.
STEP 2 - UPLOAD THE SVG FILE TO CRICUT DESIGN SPACE
If you aren't familiar with uploading SVG files into Design Space, take a look at my quick and easy tutorial here. Using your smartphone? Click here for my step-by-step guide on uploading SVG files with the Cricut App.
STEP 3 - UNGROUP CARD LAYERS
The file will upload into Cricut Design Space grouped together. You will want to hit the UNGROUP button to separate the layers.
STEP 4 - CONVERT FOLD LINES TO SCORE LINES
Scroll down the list in the LAYERS panel and find the main card. Click the fold line.
Change the fold lines to score lines by changing the OPERATION from BASIC CUT to SCORE.
Attach the score line and the main card by highlighting the GROUP and selecting the ATTACH option in lower right hand corner.
Repeat step 4 for the two remaining layers with score lines.
Click the GREEN Make It Button.
STEP 5 - MAKE YOUR MATERIAL SELECTIONS AND PREPARE YOUR MATS
You will see the six mats for this card in the mat preview.
Click the CONTINUE button.
For this tutorial, I am using Medium Cardstock. Select your materials accordingly.
Attach your cardstock to the Cricut StandardGrip Mat using the Cricut Brayer.
STEP 6 - LOADING YOUR MATS AND CUTTING YOUR MATERIALS
To load the mat into the machine, press the double arrows button. Do make sure that the mat is positioned under the mat guides.
You will know the machine is ready to cut your material when you see the flashing "C" button. Press that to start the cut.
Follow Design Space prompts to change out the scoring wheel and fine point cutting blade.
Once the cut is complete, make sure to peel the mat away from the cardstock
rather than the cardstock from the mat. This will prevent any curling of your design.
Repeat Step 6 for until all layers have been cut.
STEP 7 - ASSEMBLE YOUR CARD
Now that everything is cut, we can start to assemble the card.
Begin by layering the present together.
Now, add glue or adhesive to the back of the present and layer onto the mat.
Next, using glue or adhesive, layer the patterned paper and the mats together for the cover panels.
Fold the main card along the score lines and burnish.
For the top score line, fold the card toward you. This forms the flap.
For the bottom score line, fold the card up and away from you. This forms the pocket.
Place glue or adhesive along the inside edges of the pocket flap.
Lift up and press to adhere.
Now, place the cover panels onto the outside of the card. The panel with squared off corners goes onto the pocket and the panel with two rounded corners goes on the flap.
Next, you have two options. You can either place the message layer onto the back of the card or proceed with this next step.
Add glue or adhesive to the back of the message layer and adhere to the cover panel.
Fold the cover panel along the score line and burnish.
Add glue or adhesive to the back of the cover panel and adhere to the back of the card.
Fold the belly band along the score lines and wrap around the card.
Add glue or adhesive and attach the two ends together.
Place glue or adhesive on the back of the present and attach to the center of the belly band covering where the two ends join.
Your card is ready!
I am sure this card will make anyone's day no matter what you put inside!
