If you aren't familiar with uploading SVG files into Design Space, take a look at my quick and easy tutorial here. Using your smartphone? Click here for my step-by-step guide on uploading SVG files with the Cricut App.
STEP 3 - UNGROUP CARD LAYERS
The file will upload into Cricut Design Space grouped together. Don't worry if the card looks a little funny when you first upload it!
You will want to hit the UNGROUP button to separate the layers.
STEP 4 - CONVERT THE CUT LAYERS TO FOIL
Highlight the Christmas Tree layer.
Change the CUT line to FOIL in the LINE TYPE menu. Make sure to select MEDIUM.
Next, select the text layer.
Change the CUT line to FOIL in the LINE TYPE menu. Make sure to select FINE.
If you choose to remove the text, you can do this now. Highlight the text and hit delete on your keyboard or click the delete button in the layers panel.
Attach everything by highlighting the GROUP.
Select the ATTACH option in lower right hand corner.
Click the green MAKE IT button.
STEP 5 - MAKE YOUR MATERIAL SELECTIONS AND PREPARE YOUR MATS

Click the CONTINUE button.
For this tutorial, I am using Medium Cardstock.
Attach your cardstock to the Cricut StandardGrip Mat.
STEP 7 - LOADING YOUR MATS AND CUTTING YOUR MATERIALS
To load the mat into the machine, press the double arrows button. Do make sure that the mat is positioned under the mat guides.
Hit the "C" button once it begins to flash and you are on your way to creating your card! Follow the prompts in Design Sapce on when to change out the different tools.
Once your card has been scored, add the foil transfer sheet and tape the edges securely. DO NOT PRESS THE UNLOAD BUTTON WHILE DOING THIS!
To load the tip into the foil transfer tool, press on the plunger.
Insert the tip as directed by Design Space.
Release the plunger.
Insert the foil transfer tool into CLAMP B and press the flashing "C" button.
After your machine has applied the foil, carefully remove the transfer sheet and tape. Again, DO NOT PRESS THE UNLOAD BUTTON.
Load the cutting blade into CLAMP B and press the flashing "C" button.
STEP 8 - FOLD YOUR CARD
Now that your machine has completed the card, only one more step.
Gently fold along the score line.
Press the fold with your scraper.
Your card is ready to personalize
I love the way the light is reflected against the gold foiling. It is so pretty.

Very elegant looking card. Thank you so much
Judy,
Thank you so much for the compliment. I’m glad you like the card!
Really have been loving your projects this season. Will be making this card for sure. So beautiful
My goal is to make 50 cards for a Cards for Seniors campaign next Christmas. I don’t have the foil kit. Could I convert the lines to draw and use a metallic Sharpie? I like cards that I don’t have to do a lot to once it’s cut; I’m not into cutting out a ton of little bits that need to get glued on 🙂
I totally understand. Yes, several people have converted the lines to draw instead of foil and the results are quite nice. A metallic pen would be very pretty!
Did not know this could be done without a maker. How do I foil with my explore air 2?
Thank you
Lyn
You sure can, Lyn!
The Foil Transfer Tool can be used with the Cricut Maker AND Explore Air 2! The instruction would be the same as I have laid out in the tutorial for either machine!
Word of caution when purchasing the foiling tool… Make sure you are buying the correct one. Cricut recently released a foil transfer tool specifically for Cricut Joy. So, read the box! ☺️
I love this card! I really want to make it but I can’t seem to get my Maker 3 to accept it. I keep getting a “cannot send to mat” error. Any thoughts on why?
Hi, Amy!
I’m sorry you’re having an issue. Try saving the project, signing out of design space, closing the app, then reopening. See if it goes through.
Let me know if that works!
Nick
