DIY Matchbox Valentines
LEARN TO MAKE CUTE VALENTINES MATCHBOXES FOR YOUR FAMILY OR KID'S SCHOOL PARTIES ON YOUR CRICUT
Okay, I admit it. In the past, I always forgot about my kids' Valentine's Day parties. I would run to the store and usually buy whatever pack they had left. Well, not this year with my DIY matchbox valentines!
These cute little boxes are about 2 inches by 3 inches and hold a good amount of candy. I included some print then cut tags that your kids can sign their name on! Heck, the project is so simple that they can help assemble to boxes, too!
In this tutorial, I’ll give you my step by step instructions and tell you what materials I think work best when making this project.
Basic and Premium TBH Crafters Club Members can download the SVG cut file for this project in the File Library.

Instructions
STEP 1 - DOWNLOAD THE SVG CUT FILE
Download the SVG Cut file for the Valentine's Matchbox (#62) from The File Vault. Get access by joining the club.
STEP 2 - UPLOAD THE SVG FILE TO CRICUT DESIGN SPACE
If you aren't familiar with uploading SVG files into Design Space, take a look at my quick and easy tutorial here. Using your smartphone? Click here for my step-by-step guide on uploading SVG files with the Cricut App.
Note: I have been getting some emails stating that when the design is uploaded into Design Space, the box is very small. I am unsure as to why this is BUT if it does happen, make sure you size the entire design (don't ungroup or unlock the design) to 7.75" wide by 8.34" high.
If you don't want to use the included Happy Valentine's Day tags, click the green MAKE IT button. Otherwise, continue to step 3.
STEP 3 - UPLOAD THE PNG FILE TO CRICUT DESIGN SPACE
To upload the PNG, find where you downloaded the file onto your computer and open it. It will be in a separate folder titled TAG.
In the IMAGE TYPE MENU, Select COMPLEX and then CONTINUE.
Select the magic wand in the top left corner and click anywhere on the background (the grayed out portion). Then press CONTINUE.
Make sure to select PRINT THEN CUT and click SAVE.
Highlight the image and select INSERT IMAGE to bring the file into your canvas.
STEP 4 - RESIZE YOUR IMAGE
After your image has been brought into your canvas, change the height of the image in the SIZE panel.
Without unlocking your image, change the height to 6.25 inches.
The complete dimensions for the tag sheet should be 8.095" wide by 6.25" high.
Click the green MAKE IT button in the upper right corner.
STEP 5 - PRINT YOUR IMAGE AND MAKE YOUR MATERIAL SELECTIONS
When you get to the PREPARE screen, you will see the print then cut image with the black box around it. Click CONTINUE.
Select SEND TO PRINTER.
Make sure you have the ADD BLEED optional toggled and click PRINT.
Once your image has been printed, make your materials selection. I am using Medium Cardstock for this tutorial.
STEP 6 - LOADING YOUR MATS AND CUTTING YOUR MATERIALS
To load the mat into the machine, press the double arrows button. Do make sure that the mat is positioned under the mat guides.
Hit the "C" button once it begins to flash and you are on your way to creating your card!
Repeat step 6 until both mats have been cut.
STEP 7 - ASSEMBLE YOUR VALENTINE BOX
Now that everything has been cut, it is time to assemble!
Start by gently folding along the score line of the sleeve.
Press the fold with your scraper.
Add a bead of glue or adhesive to the tab.
Adhere the tab to the top of the sleeve to form the shape.
Next, add glue to the back of the tag.
Add to the top of the sleeve.
Now, fold along the score line of the box.
Press the folds with your scraper.
Add glue or adhesive to the four tabs.
Bring the side walls and tabs together forming the box.
Add glue or adhesive to the inside of the wall flap.
Press the wall flap into place. Make sure to press the tab into the slot on the bottom of the box.
Your matchbox valentine is ready to fill with goodies!
My daughter loved helping me make these for her class! The tag file prints off 12 at a time and you could fit two boxes on one piece of cardstock.
