DIY Clay-Pot Santa Figurines
LEARN HOW TO MAKE CLAY-POT SANTA FIGURINES AS FEATURED DURING THE HOLIDAY MAKERFEST
I love Christmas. The smells, the gift giving, spending time with family, and THE DECORATIONS! I started making these Santa Clay-Pot Figurines nearly twenty years ago when my Mom and I did Holiday Craft Shows.
Year after year, people comment on how cute they are and it instantly transports me back to that time in my life. Isn't that what Christmas is all about? The nostalgia? Those happy memories of family and warmth.
These Christmas Clay-Pot Figurines were recently featured in my workshop at the Holiday MakerFest!
If you didn't attend The Holiday MakerFest, you can get lifetime access to 40 workshops taught by some of the best crafters, organizers, and DIY experts around by grabbing the VIP All-Access Pass here.
In this tutorial, I’ll give you my step by step instructions and tell you what materials I think work best when making this project.
I created this file to be used with your Cricut cutting machine BUT you can also print out the PDF templates and cut by hand with a pair of scissors or rotary blade!
Basic and Premium TBH Crafters Club Members can download the SVG cut file for this project in the File Library.

Instructions
STEP 1 - DOWNLOAD THE SVG CUT FILE
Download the SVG Cut file for the Christmas Clay-Pot Figurines (#45) from The File Vault. Get access by joining the club.
Make sure to select the file marked SANTA.
STEP 2 - UPLOAD THE SVG FILE TO CRICUT DESIGN SPACE
If you aren't familiar with uploading SVG files into Design Space, take a look at my quick and easy tutorial here. Using your smartphone? Click here for my step-by-step guide on uploading SVG files with the Cricut App.
STEP 3 - UNGROUP THE DESIGN
The file will upload into Cricut Design Space grouped together. You will want to hit the UNGROUP button to separate the layers.
STEP 4 - PREP SANTA'S NICE LIST
Scroll down the list in the LAYERS panel and find the nice list. Click the text.
Change the text to draw by changing the LINE TYPE from CUT to DRAW.
Attach the text to the nice list by highlighting the GROUP both are under.
Select the ATTACH option in lower right hand corner.
Click the GREEN Make It Button.
STEP 5 - PREP YOUR MATS AND MAKE YOUR MATERIAL SELECTIONS
You will notice that the embellishments for Santa requires the use of the larger 12 x 24 cutting mat.
For the nice list, I have selected Medium Cardstock.
For the other embellishments, choose Felt.
When cutting felt on my Cricut Maker, I prefer the use of the Rotary Blade.
STEP 6 - LOADING YOUR MATS AND CUTTING YOUR MATERIALS
Following the prompts in Design Space, attach your material to the Cricut StandardGrip or FabricGrip Cutting Mat.
To load the mat into the machine, press the double arrows button. Do make sure that the mat is positioned under the mat guides.
Hit the "C" button once it begins to flash and you are on your way to cutting out your card!
Once the cut is complete, the double arrows will flash again. Press it and the mat will unload.
Repeat Step 6 until all layers are cut.
STEP 7 - PAINT YOUR CLAY POTS
Begin painting the inside of your clay pots first.
Don't forget the hands and the nose.
Once the inside has dried, paint the outside of your clay pots.
After that coat has dried, paint the outsides two more times for a total of three coats.
STEP 8 - ASSEMBLE YOUR FIGURINE
To begin, add hot glue to the bottom of one of the red clay pots.
Center the pot, rim side up, over the saucer and press into place.
Run a bead of glue along the rim of the red clay pot.
Attach the second red clay pot rim side down and press to secure.
Thread a button onto a piece of craft wire.
Thread the end of the wire through the other hole on the button and twist the wire, securing the bead in place.
Run the craft wire through the hole in one of the smaller red clay pots and allow the pot to make contact with the button.
Thread a second button onto the craft wire about an inch above the clay pot you just added. Secure it tightly.
Add another red clay pot to the craft wire completing one of Santa's arms.
Repeat this step for the second arm.
Once you have both arms assembled, grab one in each hand.
Place on either side of Santa's body and twist the extra wire together forming one piece.
Thread the extra wire through the hole in the red clay pots creating Santa's torso.
Add some hot glue to secure the wire in place.
Secure Santa's nose to the peach clay pot with some hot glue.
Add some hot glue to the neckline of the figurine.
Place Santa's face on top of the torso and press to secure.
Apply some glue to the round foam balls.
Place inside the arm allowing some of the foam ball to peek out.
Turn your figurine around and add some glue to the seam created by the two red pots.
Carefully press your white trim onto the glue.
Run the trim around Santa's belly and secure with hot glue.
Repeat this process for the trim along Santa's neckline.
Use the Cricut Pen to draw some eyes.
Add blush, if you desire, to create some rosy cheeks.
Apply some glue to the two flat tabs on the beard cutout.
Secure Santa's beard under the cheeks and level with his nose.
Add some glue to the mustache and secure under the nose.
Add trim around the cuffs of Santa's jacket, securing them with hot glue.
Glue, or sew, the two brown felt pieces together to form the toy bag.
After you have done that and turned it right side out, fill the bag with some poly-fill.
Add some hot glue and place a few miniature presents inside the bag to make it appear to be overflowing with presents!
Run some gold rick rack around the bag to tie it together.
Apply hot glue to the back of the toy bag.
Secure it to Santa's side near the base.
Once you have added your names to the Nice List, roll it up using the Cricut Pen.
Secure it to Santa's other hand with hot glue.
To form the hat, run a line of hot glue along one side of the red felt triangle then fold and press the other side into the glue. You can also sew the hat if you wish.
Once dry, turn the hat right side out.
Run glue along the bottom edge of the hat and add the white trim.
Place Santa's hat on his head to check for placement.
Secure a pom pom to the tip of his hat with some hot glue.
Lastly, take Santa's hat off and turn the excess white trim inside the hat and glue. This will finish off the raw edges.
Your Clay Pot Santa Figurine is now ready to gift or display!
