DIY Clay-Pot Elf Figurines
LEARN HOW TO MAKE CLAY-POT ELF FIGURINES EMBELLISHED WITH YOUR CRICUT
I started making clay-pot people, like these Elf Clay-Pot Figurines, way back in the late nineties when my Mom and I would participate in craft shows.
My gosh, back in the day, craft shows were so much fun. They used to be an EVENT, remember? People were so EXCITED to be there and see what clever and unique products they could buy all while interacting with the actual makers! So great!
Of course, with technology, came easier more convenient ways to shop for crafts. Still, I miss those shows and bazaars.
But, I digress…
These Elf Clay-Pot Figurines were recently featured at The Holiday MakerFest along with the Santa Clay-Pot Figurines.
If you happened to not attend, or know about, The Holiday MakerFest, you can get lifetime access to 40 workshops taught by some of the best crafters, organizers, and DIY experts around by grabbing the VIP All-Access Pass here.
In this tutorial, I’ll give you my step by step instructions and tell you what materials I think work best when making this project.
I created this file to be used with your Cricut cutting machine BUT you can also print out the PDF templates and cut by hand with a pair of scissors or rotary blade!
Basic and Premium TBH Crafters Club Members can download the SVG cut file for this project in the File Library.

Instructions
STEP 1 - DOWNLOAD THE SVG CUT FILE
Download the SVG Cut file for the Christmas Clay-Pot Figurines (#46) from The File Vault. Get access by joining the club.
Be sure to select the file folder marked ELF.
STEP 2 - UPLOAD THE SVG FILE TO CRICUT DESIGN SPACE
If you aren't familiar with uploading SVG files into Design Space, take a look at my quick and easy tutorial here. Using your smartphone? Click here for my step-by-step guide on uploading SVG files with the Cricut App.
STEP 3 - UNGROUP THE DESIGN
The file will upload into Cricut Design Space grouped together. You will want to hit the UNGROUP button to separate the layers.
Click the GREEN Make It Button.
STEP 4 - PREP YOUR MATS AND MAKE YOUR MATERIAL SELECTIONS
For the Elf's tools, I am using Medium Cardstock.
For the hat, select Felt.
When cutting felt on my Cricut Maker, I prefer the use of the Rotary Blade.
STEP 5 - LOADING YOUR MATS AND CUTTING YOUR MATERIALS
Following the prompts in Design Space, attach your material to the Cricut StandardGrip or FabricGrip Cutting Mat.
To load the mat into the machine, press the double arrows button. Do make sure that the mat is positioned under the mat guides.
Hit the "C" button once it begins to flash and you are on your way to cutting out your card!
Once the cut is complete, the double arrows will flash again. Press it and the mat will unload.
Repeat Step 6 until all layers are cut.
STEP 6 - PREP ELF'S TOOL SET
Glue the brown handles to the tools and set aside.
STEP 7 - PAINT YOUR CLAY POTS
Begin painting the inside of your clay pots first.
Once the inside has dried, paint the outside of your clay pots.
After that coat has dried, paint the outsides two more times for a total of three coats.
STEP 8 - ASSEMBLE YOUR FIGURINE
To begin, add hot glue to the bottom of the green clay pot.
Center the pot, rim side up, over the saucer and press into place.
Run a bead of glue along the rim of the green clay pot.
Attach the burgundy clay pot rim side down and press to secure.
Thread a button onto a piece of craft wire.
Thread the end of the wire through the other hole on the button and twist the wire, securing the bead in place.
Run the craft wire through the hole in one of the smaller burgundy clay pots and allow the pot to make contact with the button.
Repeat this process for the second arm.
Once you have both arms assembled, grab one in each hand and twist the two pieces of craft wire together, making one solid piece.
Place the arms onto the torso.
Secure Elf's nose to the peach clay pot with some hot glue.
Use the Cricut Pen to draw a face or smile. I prefer the smile only because I like the hat to cover Elf's eyes.
Add some blush to create rosey cheeks.
Apply hot glue to the neckline of the torso.
Press the peach clay pot into the hot glue securing the head to the torso.
Apply some glue to the round foam balls.
Place inside the arm allowing some of the foam ball to peek out.
Turn your figurine around and add some glue to the seam created by the two burgundy pots.
Carefully press gold rick rack onto the glue.
Run the trim around Elf's belly and secure with hot glue, covering the seam created by the two clay pots.
Repeat this step for the cuffs of Elf's jacket.
Add the tools to Elf's belt with a little hot glue.
To form the hat, run a line of hot glue along one side of the red felt triangle then fold and press the other side into the glue. You can also sew the hat if you wish.
Once dry, turn the hat right side out.
Place Elf's hat on his head to check for placement. Add a pom pom to the tip of the hat with some hot glue.
Your Elf is now ready to gift or display!
Aren't they so fun? My favorite part of these elves are the dunce caps!
