LEARN HOW TO MAKE FUN SCHOOL BUS CARDS FOR YOUR KIDS GOING BACK TO SCHOOL USING YOUR CRICUT
Can you believe the summer is almost over? We are starting school earlier than ever this year so I wanted to get a start on some fun back to school crafts. So, I made this fun school bus box card.
I have seen back to school box cards on Pinterest and various online images but I wanted to make one of my own. This design incorporates my pencil and apple that I drew out for my Sticky Note Easel Cards.
In this tutorial, I’ll give you my step by step instructions and tell you what materials I think work best when making this project.
You can download the SVG file for this project at the bottom of this post.

You will see I have set all the score lines for you.
Click the GREEN Make It button.
STEP 3 - MAKE YOUR MATERIAL SELECTIONS AND PREPARE YOUR MATS
You will see the twelve layers for this card in the mat preview. Click the CONTINUE button.
For this tutorial, I am using Medium Cardstock. Select your materials accordingly.
I suggest you change your pressure setting to MORE.
Attach your cardstock to the Cricut StandardGrip Mat using the Cricut Brayer.
STEP 4 - LOADING YOUR MATS AND CUTTING YOUR MATERIALS
To load the mat into the machine, press the double arrows button. Do make sure that the mat is positioned under the mat guides.
You will know the machine is ready to cut your material when you see the flashing "C" button. Press that to start the cut.
Follow Design Space prompts to change out the scoring wheel and fine point cutting blade.
Once the cut is complete, make sure to peel the mat away from the cardstock rather than the cardstock from the mat. This will prevent any curling of your design.
Repeat Step 4 for until all layers have been cut.
STEP 5 - ASSEMBLE YOUR CARD
Now that everything is cut, we can start to assemble the card.
Begin by layering the different embellishments.
Now, add glue to one of the solid yellow school bus layers.
Place the black school bus layer on top and press down.
Next, add glue to the backside of the yellow school bus layer with the wheels cut out.
Place it on top of the black school bus layer and press down.
Add the windows to the bus layer.
Add the gray bumper pieces to the front and back covering the black layer.
Place dots of glue in the center of each wheel and add the hubcaps.
Your bus should look like this when done.
Fold along the score lines of the shorter box pieces. These will become the front and back of your bus.
For the front, add the bumper, windshield, and headlights.
For the back, add the bumper, rear window, and brake lights.
Add adhesive or glue to the back of the white sentiment layer.
Place on the backside of the remaining solid yellow bus layer.
Fold along the score lines of the rails. These are the two layers that go on the inside of the box card.
Add the embellishments (the textbook, apple, and pencil) to their corresponding rails.
Now, we can assemble to box.
Add adhesive to the tabs on the back of the bus.
With the tabs facing inside the card, line up the left edge and press into place.
Add adhesive to the tabs on the front of the bus.
With the tabs facing inside the card, line up the right edge and press into place.
Now we need to add the bus to the front of the card.
Line up the right side of the bus with the right tab on the back of the bus.
Flipping the card over may help you align the edges.
Once that side is adhered, line up the edges of the bus layer and the front of the bus. Press into place to form the box.
Give the card a fold to make sure everything is sitting properly.
Fold the tabs of the textbook rail along the score lines. Make sure the tabs are facing away from you.
Add adhesive to the outside and place inside the box.
Use your fingers to make sure you are lining up the edges and give it a good press.
Fold the card flat to make sure everything is sitting right.
Fold the tabs of the pencil and apple rail along the score lines. Make sure the tabs are facing toward you.
Add adhesive to the outside and place inside the box.
Again, using your fingers, make sure to align the edges and give the tabs a nice press.
Fold the card to maker sure everything sits flat.
Your card is done! Here is how it should look.
STEP 6 - ASSEMBLE THE ENVELOPE
Fold along the score lines of the envelope.
Add glue or adhesive to the bottom edge of the side flaps.
Bring the bottom flap up and press into place forming the envelope.
While your kids may not be excited for the coming school year, I am sure this card will make them, or their new teachers, smile! I hope you make it!
