HOW I SET UP OUR DEPARTMENT 56 FALL VILLAGE DISPLAY

Well, Labor Day has come and gone and now visions of pumpkins, leaves, and sweaters are jumping through my head! With the change of season, it is time to start decorating for fall. One of our favorite things to put up year after year is our Fall Village from Department 56's Snow Village Collection.

THE BACKSTORY

If you have been reading this blog for a while, you know my love for Department 56 and The Original Snow Village. I go into detail about how my collecting came about in my post about our Summer Village.

When we, okay, I, discovered they have a fall, technically called Harvest, collection, I was all on board. The colors, the artistry, the scenes, just scream fall! I swear, it makes me so happy just looking at it!

CREATING A DISPLAY

I cannot take full credit for this display. My dear friend Nichole from 56th and Main designed the base. Her work is amazing and if you collect villages, you need to take a look at her Etsy shop! She is so incredibly talented and a JOY to work with!

BRINGING IT ALL TOGETHER

In our fall display, we have Thanksgiving at Grandmas. I love the harvest table you can see from the window, all set and ready for some eating!

Next to Grandma's house is the corn maze. Nichole made the stalks you can see in the background by hand. Again, amazing!

Followed by the Scarecrow Harvest Festival.

In front of the Scarecrow Harvest Festival, there is a pumpkin patch to find the perfect Jack-o-Lantern and then in the park there a newer piece called Harvest Gazebo.

Next to the park, we have Harvest Farm Roadside Sales with Ma and Pa in the yard!

Walk up the road and find the Harvest Apple Orchard with Mom's Pie Stand out back!

Finally, we get to the newest piece (for 2019), the Apple Barn.

I fill the display with lots of different accessories that help set the fall mood. People raking leaves, playing in the park, making Halloween costumes, a wagon full of hay, even a rusty truck ready to take those mud covered pumpkins!

My family, especially kids, love to look at our villages no matter the season. This one is small in comparison to Halloween or Christmas but it just makes me smile.

I hope it does for you too! Happy Fall, Y'all!

  1. I LOVE this. I just started collecting dept 56 this past Christmas and like you discovered Easter, summer, and Halloween much to the chagrin of my husband! I’m just starting my ocean boardwalk scene and have collected much of the Carnival series and some of the snow village pieces without snow. I hope you’ll share more pics of your other seasonal villages!
